BiographyLisa Walton- Artist Statement
I have been quilting for over 18 years. Starting with traditional quilt techniques and designs I gradually developed the urge to break the rules.
My fascinations with dyeing about 7 years ago began with a gift of hand dyed dyed fabrics which I then tried to replicate with varying degrees of success. Trial and error over the next few years developed my design techniques which were ultimately refined when I attended Carol Soderlund's Colour Mixing for Dyers class in USA.
I now share the dyeing with my husband Peter who enjoys the precision of formula based dyeing while I am able to concentrate on more serendipitous and experimental pieces. Our hand dyed fabrics and quilt kits are available though this website and sent all over the world.
My designs are widely published in Australian Quilt Magazines and available throughout the US through Quiltwoman.com.
My obsession of beaded embellishment for quilts has developed rapidly and I am now having a wonderful time sharing these skills and enticing others to become as obsessed as me. A selection of bead mixes to help you start your passion are also available on this website.
Four years ago I taught my first workshop and since then have been fortunate enough to teach all over Australia and the UK. I love sharing what I do and enjoy everything that I learn from my students as well.
